PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Two people were injured Thursday when their vehicles collided head-on as they traveled on the Houlton Road, south of the city.
“The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on April 24. Michele Kenney, 37, of Houlton, was traveling north when her car was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by Brandon Anthony, 20, of Bridgewater,” said Det. Bill Scull, investigating officer for the Presque Isle Police Department.
Kenney was driving a 2012 Toyota Camry, while Anthony was operating a 2008 Ford Taurus.
“The accident occurred just south of the overpass on U.S. Route 1. What we believe happened is Anthony lost control of his car, crossed the center line, striking Kenney’s vehicle. Anthony’s Ford crossed the road and went airborne, went over an embankment and into the stream,” said Scull.
Both drivers were transported to The Aroostook Medical Center by Crown Ambulance.
“Both Kenney and Anthony sustained broken bones as a result of the accident,” said Scull. Anthony was later transported to a Portland hospital.
Scull said airbags in both vehicles deployed. “Kenney was wearing her seatbelt but we’re uncertain if Anthony was wearing his,” said Scull.
Scull was assisted at the scene by other members of the PIPD and Presque Isle Fire Department, with the Maine State Police assisting with reconstructing the accident.
