RAYMOND, NH – Marilyn Ann (Porter) Parsons, age 82, of Raymond, passed away peacefully at her home, with her family by her side on Monday, May 19, 2014. She was born on February 23, 1932 in Houlton, ME, the daughter of the late Ralph W. and Mildred (Benn) Porter.
She was raised and educated in Houlton and graduated from Houlton High School Class of 1950 as the class Valedictorian. Marilyn attended the University of New Hampshire, where she studied music as a major and was active in Greek sorority life and played tennis.
Marilyn was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed raising her family. She had worked for a time as a librarian at the Reading, MA, public library. After relocating to San Mateo, CA, with her husband, she began to work as a civil servant for the U.S. Navy.
She was a very dedicated mother who was active as a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed sewing and knitting and was a talented musician who played the piano, oboe and clarinet. She enjoyed her many summers on East Grand Lake in Maine. Marilyn embraced the arts and encouraged her children to pursue their interests. Her three daughters went on to become professional ballerinas and her son became a plastics engineer.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert S. Parsons of Raymond, NH; her son, Steven R. Parsons and his partner, Mary Beth Foley, of Orient, ME; her daughters, Nancy A. Bilodeau and her husband, Thomas of Northwood, NH, Susan L. Waite-York and her husband, Richard of Houlton, ME, and Sarah B. Tompkins and her husband, David of Dover, NH. Marilyn is also survived by her brother, James Porter of Rockland, ME, who will deeply miss her. Six grandchildren as well as several cousins and great nieces and great nephews also survive her.
