Mary Lou Pomeroy and daughter, Jane Foster, former residents of Island Falls, have been recent guests of Riva Hawkes and while here they all had lunch at the River Cafe, and enjoyed meeting some of the friends they had when living in Island Falls.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Pankratz have returned from their home in Manhattan, Kan. to spend the summer months at their cottage on Pleasant Pond. They plan to enjoy the swimming pool at Vacationland Estates and the golf at VA-JO-WA and meeting with all the friends they have made during the many years they have been coming to Island Falls. I, for one, am happy to see them and will once again start swimming at the pool, as I do not swim during the winter months. I am hoping to see friend, John White, back at the pool also.
I am still putting out a few sunflower seeds but, alas, it’s mostly the pesky squirrels that are enjoying them. I still have a few chickadees and gold finch, but the squirrels are there early, it seems, and eat every thing up before they have a chance. My hummingbird feeder is being used plenty by the small little birds. I saw four of them the other day and they were having a bit of a fight as to who was going to eat first.
I guess hummingbirds are pretty feisty, so it’s fun to watch them dart at each other as they all want to eat first, it seems. My next-door neighbor, Peter Connelly, finally trapped the ground hog over at his place and transported it to some place up in Crystal. I’ll bet it will make its way back to the hideaway it had under my front steps so I will keep a lookout for it. I still have no deer showing up in the evening, maybe come July they will return.
