The 13th annual Memorial Tournament honoring Bob Burton, our former head groundskeeper and longtime member, was held last Saturday on a beautiful sunny day — finally. The Team of Dewey Dewitt, Brad and Brent McGuire and Dave Socoby were crowned champions from a field of 12 teams. The “young bucks’” long tee balls and Dewey’s masterful chipping and putting gave them a two-stroke victory over the second-place team of Louann and Bill Dwyer and Cindy and Wayne “Crash” Floyd. The Jane and Jerry York, Kara Marino and Keith Harrington team tied for third, with the Brittany Benn, Cameron Clark and the Mailman team. Thanks to Dave Tuttle for his touching words of remembrance to our departed members, and to all who played, making this day a huge success.
On Friday evening, June 20, at 5, we are hosting our first Couples Night Golf Scramble. Please sign up or call the clubhouse if you and your partner would like to play. On Saturday, June 21, we are hoping to host the June Jamboree two-ball tournament. This event combines best ball and scramble for two-person teams. The tournament is open to members, guests and the public, so sign up now to reserve your spot. We need at least eight teams.
The annual Houlton High School Alumni Scramble will be held on Saturday, July 5. This nine-hole event will be played Saturday at 9 a.m. Get your four-person teams ready and sign up now, or if you haven’t a team, sign up and we will place you on a team. You do not have to be a Houlton High School alumnus to play. Call the clubhouse now at 532-2662 for more information.
Junior Golf begins Tuesday, July 1 at 8 a.m., with registration. All 7-15 year olds are invited to attend this six-week clinic. Cost of the clinic is $45.
Entrants for the yearly President’s Cup Championship are needed. The event is open to all members age 15 and older. If you are interested in playing in this match-play event, call or sign up at the clubhouse. This event uses 80 percent handicap and is bracketed, then played throughout the summer. Deadline to sign up is July 2.
