Spring seasons come to a close

Preliminary games are set for Tuesday, June 10, followed by the regional quarterfinals on Thursday, June 12 for high school baseball and softball. The semifinals will be played on Saturday, June 14, with the finals being played on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17-18. The state championship games will be on Saturday, June 21.
Games left to be played on the regular season are as follows: Houlton baseball and softball will host Mattanawcook Academy today at 4:30 p.m.

 CAHS 6, EG/GHCA 3 — Karli Levesque of Mars Hill scattered four hits while striking out eight in Monday’s game in Danforth against East Grand/GHCA. Levesque helped her own cause by driving in two runs on two hits.
For EG/GHCA, Allie McEwen and Chelsea Winiarski each had RBI-hits.
 Limestone/MSSM 18, Hodgdon 0 — It was a four-and-half inning game Monday in Limestone, as the Eagles picked up a lopsided victory in the first game of a doubleheader. Limestone/MSSM outhit Hodgdon, 15-0 and Hodgdon committed 10 errors in the game.
Ellyzabeth Bencivenga posted the win with six strikeouts, while Delaney Rossignol came on in relief. The two pitchers combined for the no-hitter.
   Limestone/MSSM 19, Hodgdon 7 — In the second game, Taylor Desrosiers and Jessi Tracy each singled for the Lady Hawks.
Hodgdon trailed 11-1 after three innings before rallying for a six-run fifth to close the scoring gap. However, the Eagles answered with six runs in the bottom of the frame en route to the win.
 Houlton 18, Fort Kent 3 — The Lady Shires earned the win last Saturday in Fort Kent behind solid hitting from Makayla McGuire, who tripled and singled to drive in five runs. Emma Peterson scored four times and picked up the win from the circle.
 SACS 7, EG/GHCA 6 — Last Friday in Danforth, the Lady Warriors gave up six runs in the second inning and found themselves down by two runs. But in the third they rallied to score three runs and hold the EG/GHCA batters scoreless to win the game.
For SACS, Sable Altvater hit a solo home run in the second inning. Mataya Hartin hit a two-run triple in the third inning to tie the game at 6-all and Chloe Raymond then grounded out and drove in Hartin for the go-ahead run.
Raymond also singled and drove in another run, while Hartin delivered an RBI-double and a single in the game.
For EG/GHCA, Jennah Carver hit a three-run single and Sarah Stoddard added two singles.
   CAHS 19, Hodgdon 2 — Central Aroostook’s Levesque had another good outing against Hodgdon last Friday. Levesque, along with Whitnie Bradbury and Stephanie Dame each tripled in the game.
Levesque picked up the win off the mound, allowing only four hits.
For Hodgdon, Samantha Palmer and Christine Wallace each singled.
 Limestone/MSSM 16, SACS 11 — Last Thursday in Limestone, Melissa Cantafio drove in four runs with a pair of homers and a double, while Jackie Peers had a triple and three doubles to knock in two runs, as the Eagles rallied past Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook.
Cantafio’s solo homer triggered a seven-run rally in the sixth inning that erased an 11-9 deficit. Peers scored three times as did Kelsee Albert, who singled three times and had two RBIs. Cantafio picked up the win in relief.
Raymond had two singles for Southern Aroostook and Jessica Nye singled and knocked in three runs.
 SACS 7, Ashland 6 — Last Wednesday in Dyer Brook,  the Lady Warriors avenged an earlier season loss to the Asland Hornets (10-4). Hartin hit a 2-run single to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning and also scored the winning run. Tucker drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the go ahead run. Hartin finished with three RBIs, while Tucker also singled in the game. Kennedi Smith hit a pair of singles and drove in a run.
 Washburn 6, Hodgdon 3 — The Beavers held a 6-2 lead over four innings and were able to hold off Hodgdon for the win.
Hannah Sherman collected two hits and drove in a run for the Lady Hawks.
Baseball recaps:
   Hodgdon 10, Limestone/MSSM 5 — The Hawks completed a doubleheader sweep over Limestone/MSSM on Monday in Limestone.
In the second game, Hodgdon trailed 4-3 over three innings, but came back to lead 6-4 in the top fo the fourth en route to the win.
Sam Horton had three hits to drive in two runs for Hodgdon, while Jimmy Buzzell added two more hits and two runs. Dillan Buzzell fired a complete game, allowing five runs on eight hits in seven innings.
No information was provided for the first game.
 Bangor Christian 10, Katahdin 0; Bangor Christian 19, Katahdin 2 – In Saturday’s doubleheader, the Patriots shut out the visiting Cougars in the first game. T.J. Young and Riley Somers each singled.
In the second game, Shey Lane singled for the Cougars, who scored their two runs in the top of the third. The Cougars were outhit 11-1 in the second game.
 Hodgdon 13, CAHS 7 — After the Panthers took a 7-3 lead in the second inning, the Hawks battled back in the fifth for a run and then erupted for an eight-run sixth to take the win.
Tyler Sherman collected three singles and scored three runs, while Anthony Mazzacco doubled and singled to drive in two runs.
For Mars Hill, Alan Rideout posted two singles and scored twice, while Cameron Todd singled twice to drive in two runs.
    SACS 10, EG/GHCA 7 — The EG/GHCA team trailed 5-2 after three, but it took Southern Aroostook scoring a run in the sixth to break a 7-all tie. The Warriors scored two more runs in the seventh to seal the win.
Austin White had three this and three RBIs for the Warriors.
For EG/GHCA, Kenny Winiarski went 2-for-2 from the plate and drove in a run, while Logan Crone had a run-scoring hit in the fifth that knotted the game. Crone pitched six innings, striking out five.
 SACS 5, Limestone/MSSM 4 — The Eagles led 4-1 until Southern Aroostook’s Gage LeFay, Josh Perrin and Trent Cullinan sparked a comeback as each singled and scored a run in a four-run seventh-inning rally. Cullinan threw a six-hitter, while Limestone/MSSM’s Chris Bernier fired a five-hitter.
 Katahdin 12, Deer-Isle Stonington 2; DI 20, Katahdin 10 — In the first game of the doubleheader at Stacyville, the Cougars won the game behind Shey Lane, who pitched all five innings and recorded eight strikeouts. Aaron Macovy hit a three-run homer in the fifth and Lane added a double. Tyson Porter also added a double for the Cougars.
In the second game, the Mariners took a 7-5 lead in the fourth, but then outscored Katahdin 14-5 over the next two innings for the win.
For Katahdin, Macovy and Porter pitched and Daniel Moody Kay, Lane, Dakota Reinhardt, Porter and Young all doubled for the Cougars.
 SACS 11, Ashland 8 – Last Wednesday, the Warriors led 7-6 over five innings and scored four in the bottom of the sixth to hold on for the win. White and Cullinan each drove in three runs for the winners. Corey Rockwell tripled and Will McGary posted two singles in the contest.
Washburn 10, Hodgdon 0 — Washburn’s Keagan Page gave up two hits over five innings as the Beavers shut out Hodgdon last Wednesday in Washburn.
 Caribou 8, Houlton 3 — The Shiretowners took a 3-1 lead over three innings before Caribou rallied for three runs in the fourth and added two more runs in the fifth and two in the top of the seventh, while holding Houlton scoreless.
Gage Hunt and Dan Howe each grabbed two hits for the Shiretowners.
