Two local athletes will be competing Friday in the Class C state championship Track and Field Meet at Foxcroft Academy.
Rylee Warman of the Greater Houlton Christian Academy and Elyjah Crockett of Houlton High School both grabbed automatic qualifying bids to the states during the Aroostook County Track and Field Meet on May 23 in Caribou.

Warman placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:21.14.
“She ran this race first, but took it easy so she could focus on the 800-meter run,” said coach Chris Rines.
In the 800-meter, the automatic state qualifying time is 2:40. The strategy paid off for Warman, as she barely made the cutoff with a time of 2:39.82. She came in third overall, just two seconds behind Washburn’s Carsyn Koch, the overall winner.
Crockett set two personal bests with his two winning throws in the shot put and discus. He threw 42 feet, 4 inches in the shot put and 120 feet, 5 inches in the discus, besting his previous throw by 18 feet. Both throws earned him first-place medals in each event.
Crockett also took fifth place in the javelin with a throw of 114 feet, 4 inches.
“Every meet, Elyjah throws a personal best, we have no idea where his potential stops,” Rines said.
