Editor’s note: The following article is a synopsis written by staff members and volunteers of the Cary Public Library highlighting one of the suggested reading books, as determined by their staff.
Fiddleheads!
On the cover of our book review this week! Must see to believe it! A small book of delightful poetry by Jennifer Markell caught our eye and proved to be a keeper. “Samsara” comes from the ancient Sanskrit and strives to emulate the constant turning of the life cycle: birth, life, love, joys, sorrows and death.
Sometimes poems are vague and refer to emotions/events hard to decipher. These poems are spare and right to the point. “Photograph Of a Klan Child” in full regalia after a breakfast of grape jelly. “Tuesday Gets Larger” of an injured squirrel foraging food. “Fourth of July, 1968” a celebration while thoughts linger of the Holocaust as it is part of their family history. “January Thaw” may be a favorite.
Such unexpected nuggets of interest are found throughout Cary Library; try a few different books and expand your mind. Don’t forget the Children’s Summer Reading Program- special, fun, and unforgetable!
See you there.
