Southern Aroostook Community High School Seniors received scholarship awards as listed below at their graduation ceremony held on Friday, June 13 at SACS.
Principal Jon Porter presented the following awards:
SACS Valedictorian Brooke Lilley — Tyler Grand Maison MELMAC Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 renewable for up to four years and the MPA Principals’ Award for $1,000.
Kaleb Burpee — Northern Maine Community College Presidential Scholarship for $1,000, renewable for up to four years.
The George and Annie Knox Scholarship from the Ricker College Trustees in the amount of $1,500, also renewable for up to four years, was presented to Mataya Hartin and Kaylan McNally.
Matthew Furrow was presented an anonymous scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Area businessman, Chris Fitzpatrick presented the Gauvin Family Scholarship to Salutatorian Jessica Tucker. This scholarship is $1,000 and renewable for a second year.
The George Mitchell Scholarship Recipient of 2013, Kristen Tarr, presented this year’s Mitchell Scholar, Mataya Hartin, with a $1,500 renewable scholarship.
Shelby Cummings received the Heidi Pratt Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500, presented by Heidi’s sister, Brenda Hersey.
SACS and UMaine graduate, Logan Desmond presented the Phil Sherman Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to his sister, Taylor Desmond.
The Bridge to Hope Scholarship in the amount of $250 was presented by Michelle King to Mataya Hartin.
Two scholarships in memory of Peter Cullinan Sr. were presented by his daughter, Diana Betchsnerto These scholarships went to his grandson, Trent Cullinan and great-grandson, Kaleb Burpee, for $500 each.
The Jarrica Rose Emery Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was presented by Jarrica’s father, Robert Emery, to Kaylan McNally.
Robert Furrow presented a $300 scholarship in memory of his brother-in-law Kenny Swallow, Jr. to Joseph Marley.
Island Falls High School alumnus, Rebecca Drew presented five scholarships in the amount of $500 each – Taylor D. Bishop, Taylor R. Bishop, Taylor Desmond, Matthew Furrow and Mataya Hartin.
Mataya Hartin also received the First Wind Scholarship in the amount of $3,000.
Emma V. Milliken Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $200 each were presented to: Shelby Cummings, Mataya Hartin, Jiaying Lu, Brooke Lilley and Kaylan McNally.
The Island Falls Senior Citizen Scholarship went to Matt Furrow for $250.
Katahdin Club Scholarships were presented to Taylor D. Desmond and Mataya Hartin for $100 each.
Katahdin Valley Health Center Scholarships were presented by Michelle LeFay to Mataya Hartin and Cassidy LeFay and-in the amount of $250 each.
The Dollars for Scholars scholarships were presented as follows by SACS Guidance Director, Jessica Walker for a total amount of $33,800:
