On Saturday, the Island Falls Lakes Association is hosting its 11th Annual Around-the-Pond Canoe/Kayak Race at Birch Point Lodge and Campgrounds on Pleasant Lake. Registration will take place at Birch Point from 9 to 9:45 a.m. that morning at $10 per person. The race starts at 10 a.m.

All proceeds from this race go to the Southern Aroostook Community High School “Dollars for Scholars” program. A hot dog roast will be provided for all racers, along with a free T-shirt to all registered paddlers.
On Tuesday, July 29, the Island Falls Lakes Association will hold its annual meeting and Lobster/Steak Membership Appreciation Supper at the Big Valley Sno Club in Island Falls. A social time will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by the annual meeting, dinner, and two special programs.
The dinner menu is lobster or steak ($20) with potato salad, pasta salad, baby greens salad, rolls, beverage, and an ice cream social for dessert. Guests are suggested to bring their own pickers and crackers!  Please call Birch Point (463-2515) before Wednesday, July 23, to place an order for either lobster or steak.
Attracting new members and advertising goals is foremost on the agenda. Bring your concerns to the meeting. Special Programs: Susan Gallo from Maine Audubon will talk about loons and the new Maine law governing the use of lead in fishing tackle.  In addition, an auction will be held with items donated by local businesses, artists, and IFLA members.
