Patten Pioneer Days return with full slate of events

    PATTEN — The annual Patten Pioneer Days celebration is gearing up for eight fun-filled days of excitement for all ages. The celebration begins Sunday, Aug. 3 and continues until Sunday Aug. 10.
    This year’s theme is “Jungle Safari,” which should bode well for many colorful and creative floats in the town’s annual parade, set for Saturday, Aug. 9.
    The following is a schedule of events:

Sunday, Aug. 3
    Noon — Horseshoe Tourney at ball field. Bring a partner and shoes. $10/person (Winning team will win 50 percent of the profit, runner-up team will win T-shirts). Players should report no later than 11:45 a.m. The event will be held rain or shine!  Hot dogs and cold drinks will be sold by the Patten Fire Department.
Monday, Aug. 4
    9 a.m.-4 p.m. — Red Cross Blood Drive at the Methodist Church.
    5 p.m. — Frog Jumping Contest at the ball field. For ages 5 and younger and ages 6-7. Participants must bring their own frog.
    6 p.m. — Frog Jumping Contest at ball field. For ages 8-9 and ages 10-12. Participants must bring their own frog.
    6 p.m. — Bingo at Rockabema Snowmobile Club. Must be 16 years or older to play. Doors open at 5. Concessions available.
Tuesday, Aug. 5
    10 a.m. — Heart-saver CPR at Patten Fire House. Class is free unless you want to purchase the book for $12. Class size is limited; call Patten Town Office 528-2215 to sign up by July 31.
    10 a.m. — Meet Monty Moose and make your own craft at East Mill Federal Credit Union. Rain location Patten Lumberman’s Museum.
    1 p.m — Bird Show at Patten Pentecostal Church. Come meet Edgar and Casey and bring your camera. There will also be a craft for the kids.
    3 p.m. — Watermelon Eating Contest at the park for ages 4-16.
    6 p.m. — Patten Pioneer Days Pageant at Katahdin High School Auditorium for ages 3-14.
Wednesday Aug. 6
    Noon — Teddy Bear Picnic at the park for ages 7 and under. Bring your own picnic lunch and favorite Teddy Bear! Bring your camera for pictures with Smokey the Bear!
    2:30 p.m. — Coloring Contest and Ice Cream Sundaes at the Patten Town Office for ages 12 and younger. If it rains, the event will move inside to the town garage.

    3 p.m. — Outdoor Concert at Mountain Heights featuring The Has Beens. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.
    4-9 p.m. — Car Hop at Craig’s Clam Shop.
    6 p.m. — Variety Show at Katahdin High School. All proceeds benefit Project Grad.
Thursday, Aug. 7
    9 a.m.-4 p.m. — Book Sale at Veteran’s Memorial Library.
    10 a.m. — Field Day at ball field for ages 7 and younger.
    12:30 p.m. — Field Day at ball field for ages 8-14.
    4-6 p.m. — Spaghetti Supper at Methodist Church.
    6:30 p.m. — Worship concert featuring Chuck Loucka and various artists. Proceeds go to Resting Arms Ministry. Immediately following will be a human prayer chain on Main Street for the addicted.
    5-7 p.m. — Evening at the museum at the Lumberman’s Museum.
    9 p.m. — Family Movie Night at the park. “Jungle 2 Jungle” featuring Tim Allen. Bring your own chairs or blankets. Concessions available.
Friday, Aug. 8
    9 a.m.-noon — Book Sale at Veteran’s Memorial Library.
    10 a.m. — Children’s Parade and Bike Decorating Parade. Main Street to Founders Street (line up at 9:45 a.m. at the Patten Fire House. For ages 12 and younger.
    11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — Main Street Progressive Lunch (while 175 containers last). Begin at Craig’s Clam Shop for container and map. Participating businesses include Craig’s Clam Shop, Eastmill FCU, Dead River, Co., Debbie’s Deli & Pizza, Ellis Family Market, United Methodist Church, Magic Wand Car Wash, Hangar Pizza, Richardson’s Hardware, Daisy Boutique, Red Moose Trading Post, and F.A. Peabody Company. Visit all locations and receive a prize and enter a raffle!  
    1:30-3 p.m. — Foul Shooting Contest at Patten Drug Company for grades 2-6.
    2-4 p.m. — Past Patten Personalities at Patten Historical Society. Come to the Historical Society to hear about the life of Amy Curtis; how the Methodist Church began in Patten; and the early days of Maine Lodges and Sporting Camps. Lemonade and cookies served by Patten Women’s Club.
    4-7 p.m. — Pioneer barbecue at Shin Pond Village.
    5-7 p.m. — Silent auction at Shin Pond Village.
    9 p.m. — Fireworks at Shin Pond Village. Donations are appreciated.
    9 p.m.-1 a.m. — Dance at Shin Pond Pub. “DJ” Shawn Rigby (ID’s Required)
Saturday, Aug. 9
    10 a.m. — Pie Sale at United Methodist Church (downstairs). Whole pies for sale, as well as slices of pie al a mode. Come enjoy a slice of pie with coffee or tea and bring one home to share. The facility is wheelchair accessible.
    10 a.m. — Main Street parade. Line up on Mill Street at 9:30 a.m. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m at ball field.
    10 a.m. — Playground Committee Hot Dog Stand at park. Hot dogs, chili dogs, sausages, coffee and cold drinks for sale. All proceeds benefit Patten Playground Committee.
    10 a.m. — Flea Market/Craft Fair at the Park. Set up starting at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $15 per space. Must bring your own table. Call Patten Town Office for more information.
    11 a.m. — Class of 2015 Project Grad Doughboys and Sno-Cones for sale. There will also be a bake sale and all proceeds go to Class of 2015 Project Grad.
    11 a.m.- 4 p.m. — Bean Hole Bean Dinner at Lumberman’s Museum.  Music by “RFD Gang.”
    11 a.m. — Truck Show at Lumberman’s Museum. Shine your truck up for everyone to vote for the “People’s Choice Award.” Winner will receive a $100 gas card.
    11 a.m. — Cow Patty Bingo at Richardson’s Hardware. The cost is $5 per plot (tickets can be purchased at the hardware store during the week).
    11 a.m.- 2 p.m  — Children’s Carnival at ball field. Glitter Tattoos, duck pond, lollipop tree, toilet paper toss, balloon dart game, milk bottle game, photo booth, cotton candy and popcorn. Many chances to win prizes and golden tickets! Pony Rides during the Carnival $1/ride. Cub Scout Pack 205 and Boy Scout Troop 205 are teaming up to bring some fun activities to the Children’s Carnival. Dunking Booth at the Children’s Carnival with proceeds going to 2015 Project Grad
    Noon — Volleyball Tourney at volleyball court. The cost is $20 per team each team must include at least one female.
    2 p.m. — Foul Shooting and 3-on-3 at basketball court for those in grades 3-12.
    2 p.m. — Jaws of Life demonstration at Morse’s Corner (across from ball field).
    4-6 p.m. — Mason’s Steak Dinner at KVHC parking lot. The cost is $14 per person.

NE-CLR-Patten-dc4-pt-33HAVING FUN — The McNally family had one of the most humorous floats in last year’s Patten Pioneer Days parade with their “McNally Farm Stone Age Family Roast” float.

    5 p.m. — Winners announced at ball field. Includes “Golden Ticket Bike Giveaway,” coloring contest, truck contest, 50/50 raffle, Main Street parade.
    5:15 p.m. — Homerun Derby at ball field.
    7-10 p.m. — Family Dance at Tennis Court.
Sunday Aug. 10
    9 a.m. — Community Church Service at the park. Everyone is welcome!  
    10 a.m. — Patten ATV Club Ride starting at Hangar Pizza. Approximately 70-mile ride! Bring a bag lunch or purchase lunch at Shin Pond Village.
    11 a.m. — Coed softball tourney at ball field. The cost is $20 per team and each team must include at least three females. Sign up at 10:30 a.m. Concessions will be sold by KES 5th Grade Boston Trip.
    Golden Ticket Bike Giveaway Information: Throughout the week kids 17 and under will have a chance to win golden tickets. Each ticket gives them a chance to win a bike. Put the child’s name and number on the back of the ticket. Then place the ticket (or tickets) in the bag hanging from the bike of your choice. You can place all of your earned tickets into one bag or spread them out to several. Only one bike can be won per child. Bikes will be set up on the ball field on Saturday. Winners announced at 5 p.m. You do not have to be present to win.
