HOULTON — Musicians from around Aroostook County are joining forces to help raise money for the Houlton Humane Society.
The August Underground Music Fest will be held Saturday at the Houlton Rollerama. Doors open at 4 p.m. with the show following at 5 p.m. Tickets are $5.

Scheduled to perform are the following groups: Slawth, a solo artist from Houlton; Cory Bugz, a rapper from Houlton; Wild City, a rap duo from New Hampshire; Squid; Verbal Assault, a rap group from the Houlton area; and BuzzKill, a solo rap artist from Houlton.
“The reason I wanted to do this for the Humane Society is because I grew up not far from where their building is located,” said Chuck “BuzzKill’ Grim, organizer of the event. “I’ve volunteered at their old building before and I know how much help they need and how little help they get.”
Grim said when he heard of an incident several months ago where money from a donation jar was reportedly stolen, he came up with the idea of putting on a fund-raising concert.
“The idea of a charity event was brought up so I decided to help them out since it seems they don’t get a lot of help,” he said.
The type of music to be performed, a combination of rap and heavy metal, is not something heard on local radio stations.
“Things like this aren’t very common in this town,” Grim said. “Music like this isn’t exactly the ‘norm’ around here, but I figure since they do good for the animals it’s time for these (artists) to give something back.”
