PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The third annual Tuff Truck Contest will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m. in front of the grandstand — one of many family-oriented festivities taking place as part of the 160th annual Northern Maine Fair.
“We’re pleased to offer this event, which is open to anyone who wants to participate. The Tuff Truck Contest takes place in the afternoon, with the ever-popular Demolition Derby to follow at 6 p.m.,” said Andrea Bard-Smith, organizer for both activities, noting there’s still time to register for both events.
Jeff Willette, owner of Willette’s Automotive, is not only a sponsor of the TTC but will also be participating with his own truck.
“I did it last year and thought it would be fun to do it again. I’ll be using my Chevy S10 Blazer,” said Willette.
He said unlike the Demolition Derby, which requires certain guidelines be met, including the use of roll bars, every-day vehicles can be used in the TTC.
“There’s minimal preparation. The basic requirements include a helmet, gloves, neck brace and seatbelt,” said Willette. “This is a pretty safe way to have fun.”
“We’re trying to get the contest off the ground; interest continues to grow,” he said.
While the Demolition Derby takes place in the infield, the TTC will use the track.
