Transition to college made easier with ‘College Success’ course

HOULTON, Maine — First-time college students can improve their chances of being successful in college with a course being offered at the Houlton Higher Education Center.
The one-credit course called College Success is designed to help new students get the most from their college experience and to feel comfortable in this setting.
The offering is being presented by Northern Maine Community College.
“We use interactive exercises and discussions of a variety of topics including goal setting, study skills, time management and information literacy,” says NMCC instructor Tracy Rockwell. “While the course only requires one hour per week, the small investment of time will reap benefits not only in college, but beyond.”
The course is especially valuable for first-generation college students who are unable to lean on the experience of others in their family. The class begins Tuesday, September 2, 2014.
