PORTLAND — The Maine Credit Union League recently honored five individuals as the recipients of the Maine CU Movement’s annual awards. The recipients were recognized and presented with their awards at a special ceremony held in Portland recently in conjunction with the League’s 76th Annual Meeting and Convention.
John Doe
Nominees are submitted by credit unions, with the final winners determined by the League’s Awards and Convention Committee. Combined, this year’s recipients have nearly 175 years of experience in the Maine CU Movement. Nearly 750 credit union representatives, guests and exhibitors attended this year’s Convention held June 27-28 in Portland.
John Doe, vice chair at Eastmill Federal Credit Union of East Millinocket and Patten received the League President Award for Outstanding League Volunteer.
Doe has been a credit union volunteer for 28 years. He also serves as president of the Northern Penobscot Chapter of Credit Unions. Since 2000, Doe has also served on the Maine Credit Union League’s Board of Directors.
League President John Murphy called Doe “someone who brings a great deal of knowledge to the Board, and who contributes significantly to our discussions. He is the only credit union volunteer currently serving on the Board so John brings the member perspective to all of our meetings.”
Doe, a retired educator who held a variety of positions including as superintendent for several school districts, is also active in youth financial education and is a high school basketball referee.
