HOULTON, Maine — The start of World Breastfeeding Week was celebrated in Houlton Saturday, as the Shiretown was one of two locations in the state participating in the “Big Latch” event.
Held at Mother 2 Mother on 5 Bangor St., the event served to raise community awareness about breastfeeding and its benefits.
“With the new healthcare laws, moms are getting the support they need with breastfeeding, and health plans are now required by law to cover lactation education and support, including clinical management with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) for feeding issues post partum,” said Erica Rockwell, RN
During the Big Latch, mothers nursed their babies simultaneously at 10:30 a.m. around the world.
