BRIDGEWATER, Maine — The Bridgewater Fire Department is one of three agencies named to receive federal grants through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AGF) for vehicle acquisition and operations and safety purposes.
U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King made the announcement in a joint statement Aug. 13. Bridgewater will received approximately $24,909 which will be used to purchase personal protective gear. Also receiving grants are the Skowhegan Fire Department, $134,866 to help purchase 18 self-contained breathing apparatuses; and Brownfield Volunteer Fire Department, $238,000 to help acquire a water tanker fire truck.
“These grants play a vital role in supporting fire departments across Maine, like those in Skowhegan, Brownfield and Bridgewater, as well as the dedicated fire and rescue personnel who serve our communities,” said Sens. Collins and King in a joint statement. “These funds will help provide rescue personnel with the appropriate resources necessary to perform their important duties.”
Congressman Mike Michaud stressed the importance of supporting our first responders.
“Supporting our first responders means investing in, and providing them with, first-rate equipment,” said Michaud. “These grants from FEMA help the brave firefighters who protect our communities better do their jobs. These are important investments from FEMA. I know they will help these fire departments continue to respond to emergencies safely, quickly and effectively.”
AFG grants are administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
