ISLAND FALLS – William Lennon Daniels, Jr., 70, of Pleasant Pond, Island Falls, passed away Monday, August 25, 2014, from a tragic accident at home. He was born in Bangor on April 16, 1944, to Dr. William Daniels, Sr., and Frederica (Wilson) Daniels.
He married the love of his life and best friend, Diana Porter Daniels, on July 19, 1969. Bill went to work for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad in December 1969. After many changes at the railroad, he retired from the Montreal Maine and Atlantic Railroad in April 2004. He was a member of the Island Falls Lodge AF & AM and Anah Shriners, where he was a member of the Academicians.
Bill enjoyed his work at the railroad as an electrician. As a retiree, he enjoyed telling stories about his work and the numerous friends he had worked with on the railroad. He also read many books on railroad history and particularly liked diesel electric locomotive history. Bill loved researching his family’s history, telling stories, gatherings with family and friends, and traveling.
Bill had enrolled in the organ donor program on his Maine driver’s license. His family has coordinated with the EMMC and the New England Organ Bank (http://neob.org) to make these life saving donations to those in desperate need.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Porter Daniels, of Island Falls; two daughters, Katherine Daniels and her husband, Justin Kinney, of Quincy, Mass, Jennifer Daniels and her fiancé, Cee-Jay Amara, of Franklin, Mass; grandsons, Jared Daniels and Colin Kinney; a brother, John Daniels and his wife, Phyllis of Bucksport; his mother-in-law, Helena Porter; brothers-in-law, Brent and wife, Sherry, Galen “Bob” and wife, Joleen, Frank and wife, Melissa, all of Island Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held 10 a.m. on Friday, August 29 at the Island Falls Cemetery with the Rev. Ben Greene and Island Falls Masonic Lodge #206 officiating.
