Which NASA astronaut is/was your favorite? How children dreamed and some still do, about going to the moon! Cary Library has a new set of science biographies detailing the backgrounds of famous fliers – we read Neil Armstrong’s by Catherine Chambers. His passion for flying started very young and followed his Dad’s taking him to an air show. He drew models and built toy planes.
He actually flew old WWII airplanes after taking lessons at 15 years old. With heroes such as Chuck Yeager, Charles Lindberg and Amelia Earhart, he became an ace and never feared the fights over Korea. Finally on the moon Armstrong “took the best rock and soil samples of any moon walker.”
These books contain concise and detailed timelines, glossaries and suggestions for further reading.
