Award-winning Houlton Herefords — Among the fine-blooded cattle being grown in Aroostook is the prize herd of Herefords owned by the E. L. Cleveland Company and kept at their large farm on the River road. This herd was shown at the Houlton Fair and was awarded 11 ribbons by the judges who complimented the owners in making such an excellent local exhibit.
Heading back to college — College students who have been spending the summer at home are returning to their respective schools. Donald Putnam left Tuesday for Colby, Miss Madeline Cleveland to Simmons College, on Monday evening Wellington Bamford and Leland McElwee to Bowdoin, and Wm. Manuel to Bates.

Nazi propaganda mailed to Houlton — The Houlton Chamber of Commerce this week received a propaganda communication direct from Berlin, Germany, written under the signature of Hitler’s director of information.
New clock for Union Square — If you’ve passed Osgood’s Shop in Union Square since Wednesday morning, perhaps you’ve noticed C. S. Osgood’s contribution to that section of town. He has erected the Old North Station clock, which he acquired last April, high on the building to serve as a timepiece for the West end of town.

Harbison/Fitzpatrick fall wedding — Miss June Elaine Harbison, daughter of Mrs. Doris Harbison of Houlton and the late Harvey F. Harbison, Jr., became the bride of John Thomas Fitzpatrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Fitzpatrick of Houlton in ceremonies Saturday afternoon at the rectory of St. Mary’s Church.

Post office cited for Savings Stamp sales — Postmaster Leo Spain and the Houlton Post Office staff were praised today in a letter from William H. Neal, national director of the U.S. Savings Bonds division for their efforts in promoting the sale of U.S. Savings Stamps throughout the School Savings Program.

Possible coyote bounty — The state Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is proposing rules to implement a coyote awards program established by the 114th Maine Legislature. The program, intended to encourage hunters and trappers to kill coyote by providing cash awards, might be welcome news to Houlton area sheep ranchers who have lost more than a dozen of their flocks to attacks.
