Mrs. Martin Pankratz is recuperating at home on Pleasant Pond following surgery recently at the Millinocket Hospital. I understand that she will soon be back swimming with friends at the Vacationland pool. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Fitzgerald have closed their camp for the summer and have moved back to their home in Millinocket, and that means one less to join the group that has been enjoying the swimming at the Estates pool.
Marion Hoar, Riva, Shelly Stevens and Barbara Pelletier were volunteers recently at the Upper Room in Sherman where they assisted the many people who came in during the day.
Now have quite a selection of birds at my feeders now that the weather has turned so cold. Brown wrens, goldfinch, (female) chickadees, and of course, the blue jays.
I did spy one mourning dove the other day fairly early in the day. And the big black crows are still arriving in my back yard and spotted a gray squirrel out there too but he didn’t try very hard to run off the crows — attacked them once, then seemed to say the heck with it and took off for parts unknown. And the deer have stopped arriving now. For a while there there were deer all over the place when I looked out — and I have seen just two in the last few days. Hope they return as I have a few old apples I can give them and the apple tree at the foot of my driveway is dropping apples galore on the ground. The deer like them but they are not good eating apples for us humans. Am keeping my eye on the apple tree to see when they return.
