Katahdin Elementary’s sixth grade class of 2014 left us last spring with a “Buddy Bench” on the playground. The idea of a “Buddy Bench” is for a student who is feeling sad or lonely at recess to go sit on the bench.
When other students notice someone on the “Buddy Bench” they are encouraged to go sit with that person and invite him/her to play.
Another wonderful addition to our playground at Katahdin Elementary this year is a 16’ by 16’ by 14” sandbox built by custodians Dicky McNally and Roland Davenport. The sandbox is proving to be a very popular activity during recess!
