Mr. and Mrs Martin Pankratz have closed their cottage for the winter and have now returned to their home in Manhattan, Kansas. On their way back they planned to make a quick visit in Michigan to visit with their daughter, Marsha.
Mr. and Mrs Arnold Roach have also closed their cottage and have since returned to their winter home in St. Petersburgh, Fla. So many of my swimming friends have left and there are only a few of the regulars that still arrive for their swim. Among them are Judy Willigar and her daughters, Marsha Grant and Sheila Pelletier, and they informed me that they plan to be there every week. I haven’t had friend, John White, show up at the pool for some time and all the ladies who were used to seeing him several times a week miss him. Maybe this winter he will return?
I have now discovered that I not only have one gray squirrel to contend with, but three. I saw them the other day running across my back yard making a beeline for my feeders. I am not filling the feeders too full — just enough to feed the chickadees, gold finch and wrens a bit. If they are lucky they get enough to keep them full. I looked out my window late one afternoon lately and there were three deer having an afternoon siesta right in the middle of my backyard. They lay for quite some time, even though it was raining, and then got up to graze before going back into the woods. The two half grown fawns still show up and are still having fun chasing one another all over the area. A friend calls it my “ backyard circus.”
