Houlton’s Cameron Clark tied for third place with Fort Fairfield’s Robbie Watson in the State High School Invitational Golf Tournament held Saturday at Natanis Country Club in Vassalboro.
There were 29 boys representing Class C last Saturday.
Clark and Watson each shot a 76 over 18 holes, while Mattanawcook Academy’s Logan Thompson scored a 72 for first place and Winthrop’s Adam Hachey carded a 73 for second place.
“Cameron played very well,” said Houlton coach David Grant. “He was tied for first on the last five holes. He has played his best golf in his career the last three weeks. It has just been outstanding.”
Parker Brewer of Houlton finished in a four-way tie for ninth place.
“He rebounded well from the team state meet to the individuals,” Grant noted.
Brewer, along with Southern Aroostook’s Parker Walker, North Yarmouth Academy’s Brad Potter and Mattanawcook’s Jeff Garfield, all tallied 83s.
Hodgdon’s Ben Tuttle finished 15th in the competition with a score of 85, while Houlton’s Ryan Dee struggled, placing 20th with an 89.
“Ryan just had one of those days,” said Grant. “It did not go right. It all went left.”
In the girls meet, Ashley Wallace of Hodgdon shot a 90 for a 13th ranking, while Lexi Emerson of Hodgdon finished with a 109.
Tonight, the Knights of Columbus will be hosting a spaghetti supper for both the Houlton and Hodgdon golfers to wrap up their seasons.
