Houlton Rec youth basketball

    Registrations are being accepted for three youth basketball programs by the Houlton Parks and Recreation Department. “Little Hoopsters” for grade K will run on three Saturdays in December, “Tykes” for grades 1-2 and “Peewee” basketball for grades 3-4 will begin

in December and run until Feb. 7. Deadline for registrations is Nov. 14. For more information on any of these programs, call the rec at 532-1310.

Community playground meeting

    There will be a Community playground meeting at the Houlton Recreation Center on Monday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend. For more information, contact Marie Carmichael, recreation program director at 532-1310.

 Fitness classes offered

    The Houlton Recreation Department will be offering two fitness classes. Both classes require a registration by calling 532-1310 to register by Nov. 11 or visit the rec Facebook site at Houlton Recreation Department and leave your information there. Classes being offered are:

Pi-yo Burn and Firm

    Pi-yo Burn and Firm is all about gaining strength and improve flexibility through Pilates and yoga -designed moves, while you burn calories moving to your favorite songs. Classes will start on Tuesday, Nov. 11 and will run for eight weeks each Tuesday and Thursday from 5-6 p.m. Instructor is Yvonne Hyman. Cost is $45 for Houlton residents and $65 for non-Houlton residents. Bring water, a yoga mat, sneakers and one to five-pound weights are optional.

Zumba

    This fitness class will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The eight-week class will be held each Tuesday and Thursday at 6:15 p.m. Lura Griffin is the instructor for this Latin-inspired, dance fitness class. The class format combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body in an aerobic/fitness fashion. Cost is $45 for Houlton residents and $65 for non-Houlton residents. Participants should wear sneakers and comfortable clothes.
