The Purple Hat Society met for their November gathering in Monticello at the Blue Moose Restaurant on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Twenty members and five guests were in attendance. Guests were Alfreda Albert, Winnie Briggs, Margaret Dudley, Hilda Hughes and “Dee” Jewell, all of Houlton.
Leader Charlotte Marley was there in her purple garb, always a delight. Lois Downing offered the grace before the meal. Afterwards, each lady gave her Purple Hat name and the guests did the same. October and November birthdays were announced and Charlotte observed Veterans Day, giving some facts on the holiday.
Kay Grass and Brenda Lacostic were awarded the drawings for the month. “A Thanksgiving poem,” was next on the agenda, taking the letters of the word Thanksgiving and beginning each line of a poem with that letter. Each lady read her poem — most were grateful for “giving thanks for your family and neighbors,”
were some examples using the letter “G.”
The ladies had a parade displaying their “ugly” sweater, with Sandy Wyman the winner. Votes were taken to determine the winning sweater and several ladies entered the contest. Discussion of the Christmas party took place. The date will be Tuesday, Dec. 9 with an exchange of gifts.
Attending from Cary were Jackie Colella, Denise Clark, Joanne Scott and Brenda Lacostic; from Houlton, Wannetta Townsend, Betty Wyman and Marsha Reed; from Littleton, Kay Grass; from Dyer Brook, Marie Gillotti and Sandy Wyman; from Oakfield, Alma Clark, Elaine Barrett. Bernice Campbell, Delores Locke and Sandra Holmes; from Merrill, Arlene Friel; from Smyrna, Cindy Gray; and from New Limerick, Millie Gagnon.
