Lawrence E. (Larry) Marshall, 87, of Grafton, WV, passed away on November 18, 2014. Larry was born in Houlton, Maine on December 30, 1926, son of the late Olin George Marshall and Florence M. Marshall Kelley.
He lived with a contagious zest for life and will be affectionately remembered by friends and family by his nicknames, “Munchkin” and “Ole Trout.”
Larry served his country in active duty during WWII and was an active member of the American Legion Chester Briggs Post #47 in Houlton. After his retirement, he remained active with the American Legion Post in West Virginia. Prior to retirement, Larry worked for Byron H. Smith & Company and Crawford Homes of Houlton for many years. Larry was a member of the Houlton Lodge of Elks #835. An avid fisherman, Larry enjoyed fishing the waters of East Grand Lake in Aroostook/Washing-ton Counties of Maine. Larry loved playing golf at Houlton Community Golf Course and numerous other venues after his retirement.
He is survived by his beloved granddaughter, Carol Gilpin, Hampden; one grandson, William Bubar and wife, Jill, of Oakfield; three great- grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas, Marissa; one brother, Terrance Marshall of New Hampshire; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Marshall; his longtime companion, Gladys Warman; four brothers, George Marshall, Joseph Marshall, Paul Marshall, and James Marshall; four sisters, Marion Welch, Dorothy Russell, Margaret (Peggy) Flemming, and Jeanette Caruso.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the West Virginia
National Cemetery at 10 a.m. with full military honors that were accorded by the VFW Memorial City Post #3081, American Legion Taylor County Post #12, Central WV DAV Chapter 24 and their auxiliaries and the U.S. Navy National Honor Guard.
