Houlton Council of Catholic Women met for their regular November meeting in the parish center of St. Mary Church on Monday, November 2. Moderator Rev. David Raymond was in attendance and led the blessing before we partook of our lovely luncheon. Two kinds of soup were available by the November committee and it was a great addition to a super meal.
President Lynette Dobbs directed the meeting and she took notes in the absence of secretary Charlene Tabb, absent because of the recent storm. Large amounts of money were designated to the Thanksgiving dinner, Salvation Army and the community Food Pantry.
Anita Levesque, chairman of the luncheon for the Christmas Bazaar, spoke on the plans of the luncheon. Donations are always a must for the luncheon, hot dogs, rolls, Whoopie pies, cookies, and the usual. Tables are $10 for rental and our Council will sponsor one to sell a Christmas wreath, supplied by Jane Mitchell and decorated by Mary Grant. The wreath will be lighted and have 50 one dollar bills on it. The proceeds will go towards the Seminarian Fund.
Jane Stile talked on her plans for toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, tooth paste and other condiments to be packed for the Food Pantry recipients during Christmas season. Walmart and Marden’s are the suppliers of these items and we are grateful to them and also to Jane, for her ambition in this charity. Bonnie Reynolds gave a review of what she is doing for helping on the luncheon and how to spend some time in Houlton during the celebration of the third degree during the month of May 2015, never before in Houlton.
Lynette Dobbs, Louise Guillette and Alta Reardon recently attended a Maine Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. Discussed were Caps of Love, which Alta explained, and a project with members keeping in touch by prayer partners.
A Mass will be said in the future for any Council member who is deceased. Evelyn McDonald is the latest deceased member and a Mass will be said for her, to be posted in the weekly bulletin.
November is the month for the animal shelters and its items, which Council sponsors every year. Alta Reardon offered to drop off the items, dog food, cat food, paper towels, etc., and any other items in December. Thank you, Alta. One decade of the Holy Rosary was said for several intentions, led by Lynette. Bonnie Reynolds won the door prize.
The next meeting will be Monday, December 1 with a business meeting and a Yankee Swap in celebration of the Christmas party. All Council members will bring an item for the swap and a food item too.
