The year 2014 is slowly coming to an end. It has been an emotional roller coaster for everyone at The Ark Animal Sanctuary and we have learned so much.
We have learned that when crisis strikes, there is no better place to be from than Houlton. People pull together in this small town.
They make you feel like part of their family and they go the extra mile to help. Your support and generosity have meant more to us than you will ever know. The people from this small community have helped us land back on our feet and come out of the gate swinging once again. We are going to work even harder to make our dream become a reality once again. With that being said I thought you might like to hear a few updates.
The sanctuary grounds are once again beginning to look like something. We have four walls up and we are hoping to have the trusses in place in the coming week.
The well and septic lines are run to the inside of the building. It has been a long tough road but we are getting there. We are writing some pretty large checks and when the money runs out, we will stop.
Once again we will pay as we go so as not to have a mortgage. You will see us out there in the cold and snow raising funds to continue our work!
I am sure you all remember Keith, our FIV kitty that was saved from the fire because he was at the vet.
Keith has struggled with his mouth for quite some time and I am pleased to report that these days he is doing much better. His mouth has finally started to heal in the front, but the back is still pretty sore.
At one point he was anemic. But after his vet visit last week he is no longer anemic. His blood work looks pretty darn good for an FIV cat.
He is eating five cans of fancy feast a day, and is still on antibiotics, but he is gaining weight! We have added some vitamins to the mix and he is looking pretty awesome these days. His motor never stops – he is one content cat.
Moose is another one of our FIV kitties that was in a foster home at the time of the fire. After five years of being a resident at The Ark, and having some serious health concerns, Moose is doing really great and this past weekend Moose was finally adopted into his furever home.
We were all so excited we were speechless. I guess it is true what they say … good things come to those who wait. Moose was adopted by one of the vet techs that has helped care for him when he was sick. He couldn’t have gotten a better home!
We wish love, hope and prosperity to everyone this holiday season. If you are traveling for the holidays, please stay safe. We hope the New Year brings you much happiness.
Please join us for the final bake sale of the season on Saturday, Dec. 20, outside Hollywood Pet Salon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by and get some wonderful food for the holidays! We will be taking the month of January off for some much needed rest and family time, but will begin our regular schedule of fundraising in February.
Thank you for your continued support and as always thank you for reading our column. Happy Holidays from everyone at The Ark.
