It may be well after Thanksgiving, but the students and staff members at Mill Pond School in Hodgdon are still “counting their blessings.”
The Retired Educators in Aroostook County chose Mill Pond School to be the recipients of the group’s annual project, Bulging Backpacks. The group of retired educators brought in school supplies during the four months they met this year. Three members of the group made the trek to deliver the backpacks and their overflowing contents in September. The three members who visited Mill Pond School were Janet Woods, Rose Harris and Donna Hurley.
The three guests enjoyed a tour of the school, met some of the staff members and students, had lunch, and surprised students and staff members with an abundance of supplies. The blessings did not end there because on Tuesday, Nov. 24, Woods and Hurley came back to Mill Pond School to present Principal Loreen Wiley and her students with a $100 check.
Because the Retired Educators of Aroostook County completed their designated project for the year, the Maine Retired Educators group provided $100 checks to all county groups who successfully completed their project.
The Retired Educators of Aroostook County, which has about eighty members, meets four months per year. They enjoy lunch together and have a guest speaker. If you are a retired educator and would like more information about this group, please call Janet Woods @ 498-2482.
