HOULTON, Maine — The Region Two School of Applied Technology in Houlton hosted freshmen and sophomores from East Grand School, Hodgdon, and Houlton, as well as Region Two students on Oct. 17 for the inaugural College\Career Fair.
Students met over 20 representatives from post-secondary, higher education, military, and industry partners that place Region Two students at their facilities for additional training, education, and employment opportunities.
“This is a great opportunity for potential, and present, Region Two students to see the next step involved in Career and Technical Education (CTE),” said Applied Academics Instructor Bo Zabierek. “That is, to help place students in an appropriate work or learning environment to pursue further advancement in their chosen trades.”
Smith and Wesson represented one of the local businesses while the Army National Guard represented a local military option for students. Community colleges and public, as well as private, universities from all over Maine were well represented.
“We are hopeful that after piloting the concept with the schools we did this year, that we can grow this event to include all our partner schools in the coming years,” said Region Two Director David Keaton. “We will also use this experience to fine tune the schedule to allow more time for students and recruiters to interact.”
After the event, the college, military, and business partners were treated to a lunch prepared by Region Two’s Culinary Arts program. This opportunity gave the Region Two MELMAC Leadership Team a chance for feedback on the event from the presenters and further discussion about educational and employment opportunities at their sites.
