CARY PLANTATION – Robert T. “Ted” Estabrook, 78, passed away on December 24, 2014, with his sons, Tom and David, and his daughter, Lucie, at his side. He was born in Amity on September 22, 1936, the youngest son of Shirley H. and Dorothy M. (Martin) Estabrook.
Ted attended the Reed School in Amity and graduated from Houlton High School. He was a pulp cutter and hauler, a farmer, and a line splicer for the telephone company. Ted lived in Cary for many years, fondly calling his place “the swamp.” He liked nothing more than having his many friends drop by for a game of cribbage, checkers, or scat and a nip of something. He loved living in the woods and was deeply saddened to leave his beloved “swamp” in the last year of his life. Ted will forever be remembered for a wink and a grin, a smile and a wave, and the twinkle in his eye.
In addition to his children, Ted is survived by his sisters Elaine Amnott of Westfield, Joanne Anderson of Hancock, and Mary Butterfield of Brookton; his best friends, Lynne Jordan of Old Town, and Jessie Geiger of Hodgdon; his granddaughter, Nicole Manchester; and many much-loved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Mickey and Kenneth; his sisters, Janice and Averill; and his brothers-in-law, Floyd Tower, Henry Farrar, Ralph Butterfield, Eugene Amnott, and Melvin Anderson. The family is forever grateful to Kim, Linda, Lana, Dolly, and David of Hospice of Eastern Maine for their care and support.
Friends may call at the Dunn Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. A graveside service will be announced in the spring.
