HOULTON – Sylvio I. Raymond, 71, died January 2, 2015 at home with family by his side. He was born March 22, 1943 in Westbrook, the son of Sylvio Sr. and Thelma (Pomeroy) Raymond. The family soon after moved to Fort Kent.
When his father returned home from the service his family moved to Houlton and purchased Chadwick’s Florist. Sylvio worked many hours in the family business. He served in the Army in Korea and the Dominican Republic from 1964-1966 in the finance corp. He returned to Maine and attended Husson College from which he graduated with honors in 1968. He received a MBA from the University of Detroit. He worked at Ford Motor Company in finance and purchasing for 22 years, traveling to Europe, Mexico and South America. He also worked for Trico Products for three years and Rockwell Automotive for an additional three years, becoming an executive in each company. He retired to Houlton in 1998. In 2001, he and his wife opened the Animal Hospital of Houlton and Sylvio became the practice manager.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Laurel Pinales; two sons, Tim and his wife, Jill, of Tucson, AZ and Sylvio Raymond, III of Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren, Daniel “Danny” and Sylvio Joseph “Joey”; four siblings, Mary Beaulieu and her husband, Francis, of Rutland, VT, Pat Fisher of Farmingdale, Paul Raymond and Mike Raymond and his wife, Sharon, all of Houlton; a stepson, Peter Gutenberg of San Diego, CA; many nieces and nephews.
Friends called 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6th at St. Mary’s of the Visitation where a Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. with Father Dave Raymond celebrant. A full military detail was present. A time of fellowship and remembrance was held immediately following at the Horn of Plenty restaurant.
