Visit from famous dog team — A genuine Alaskan dog team hitched to a combination cart and sledge with driver, Bill Brown, arrived in town last Wednesday after having traveled about 25,000 miles on a wager. Starting from Seattle on May 5, 1912, Brown has visited nearly every state in the Union and many places in Canada.
Hillman case continues — No new developments in the search for missing Deputy Sheriff Harold C. Hillman. A report was current on the street that a body was found in a trunk in Boston, but authorities do not put reliance on it. A spiritualist from Eastport has claimed to find the body two hours after arriving here, but by Tuesday he had not reached Island Falls.

W. J. Thibodeau remembered — (May 7,1867 – Jan. 3, 1940) From a contributed tribute: William J. Thibodeau was a fine example of a self-made man. Born of poor parents, he demonstrated his ability to hold his own in a bitter competition period. He made money and spent it in Houlton, built the first large brick building, now Dunn Furniture, and developed the Thibodeau Block. A great reader and a student of history, he was one of the founders of the Aroostook County Historical Museum.
Four scouts inducted — Boy Scout Troop 157 inducted four boys recently: Eugene Dow, Vinal Tracy, Wendell Wood and Arvard Noble.

Manuel new fish & game chair — State Senator Glenn H. Manuel of Littleton has been appointed chairman of the Inland Fisheries and Game Committee.
Full-color roadmaps for ’65 — A colorful 1965 Maine highway map is off the press and being distributed this week. Eventually, 670,000 maps will find their way into motorists’ glove compartments.
Shur Holstein sets record — A three-year-old registered Holstein cow owned by Jacob Shur of Island Falls produced a noteworthy record 18,030 pounds of milk and 634 pounds of butterfat in 305 days.

Epstein’s to open Houlton store — Epstein’s Inc., a Brewer based clothing store with branches from Presque Isle to Stonington, will open a Houlton store in April in the Watson Building at 50-52 Main Street. The Watson Block formerly housed the offices of George S. Gentle Insurance Co.

Britton to manage truck stop — Ray Britton of Monticello has assumed the manager’s position of the Maine Truck Stop on the North Road at Monticello. He previously owned and operated Britton’s Cash Market in Monticello for 10 years and the Aroostook Fruit and Produce Co. in Houlton.
