The recent Class C Heal Point standings find the Houlton girls sitting in second place with a 7-1 record behind No. 1 Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) with a 9-2 record. Third place through the qualifying 11th ranking are: Calais (8-2); Dexter (10-2); Narraguagus (7-4); Orono (7-3); Central (6-4); Mattanawcook Academy (6-3); George Stevens (5-5); Sumner (6-3); and Washington Academy (2-8).
In last week’s action, the Lady Shires handled Calais easily, 65-44, Saturday night at Alumni Gymnasium.
Kolleen Bouchard scored a game-high 23 points, while pulling down 15 rebounds and handing out five assists. Katie Condon tossed in 15 points and hauled down nine rebounds and Natalie Hill added 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Calais’ shooter, Maddie McVicar posted 19 points.
The Lady Shires jumped to a 19-8 first-quarter lead only to watch the lead dissolve to 25-23 at intermission. In the third, the Houlton girls outscored Calais, 15-4, to take the win.
Last Wednesday, the Houlton girls overpowered host Stearns, 50-27, behind Condon’s 13 points; Bouchard’s 12 and Rylee Warman’s seven.
The girl’s Class D Heal Point standings have changed a bit, as the East Grand girls have dropped to seventh with a 7-1 record. They are behind No. 1 Washburn (10-0); Van Buren (9-2); Easton (8-4); Fort Fairfield (7-1); Penobscot Valley (6-5); and Schenck (8-2).
Rounding out the top 15 teams are: Shead (8-1); Wisdom (6-5); Stearns (5-5); Machias (5-3); Central Aroostook (7-4); Deer Isle-Stonington (4-7); Limestone/MSSM (3-8); and Woodland (2-8).
The Katahdin girls are on the bubble in 16th position with a 6-6 record, while Southern Aroostook (1-9) is 19th and winless Hodgdon is 21st.
In Class D girls action on Monday, the Katahdin girls fell to visiting Easton, 47-39, in Stacyville.
Katahdin was led by Molly Cunningham with 12 points and Courtney Stevens with 10.
For Easton, Madison Leach scored 12 and Hannah Ferris chipped in with 10.
Saturday, the Lady Cougars topped host Hodgdon, 55-37, as Stevens poured in 25 points and Georgia Landry netted 10 more.
For Hodgdon, Hannah Sherman scored 13 points.
Last Friday, the Hodgdon girls were overpowered by Central Aroostook, 75-24, as Kassie Levesque pumped in 24 points, while Karli Levesque added 22 and Molly Anthony chipped in with 13.
Sherman led the Lady Hawks’ offense with 11 points.
The Lady Panthers led 21-4 to start the game and held a comfortable 35-13 halftime cushion en route to the win.
The Lady Panthers added another win over Southern Aroostook, 69-49, on Monday in Dyer Brook. Karli Levesque scored 22 of her 28 points in the first half, while Anthony fired in 25 points. The CAHS girls went 26-of-30 from the free throw line.
For SACS, Kennedi Smith had 19 points and Cassidy Lyons 12 more.
The CAHS girls led : 18-15; 33-25; and 50-38.
The Lady Warriors fell to visiting Van Buren, 66-34, last Saturday in Dyer Brook, as Felisha Bouchard scored 22 points, blocked 11 shots, grabbed 10 rebounds and had nine steals for the Crusaders. Courtney Parent tossed in 21 more for the winners.
For SACS, Smith netted 11 points.
Van Buren led at all the quarter breaks: 11-8; 30-12; and 51-20.
Last Thursday, the Lady Cougars rolled by Southern Aroostook, 70-46, behind the all-around play of Cunningham, who scored a game-high 28 points, while grabbing 10 offensive rebounds along with 15 defensive boards.
Landry netted 19 points and Stevens tossed in 12 more for the winners.
Southern Aroostook’s offense was paced by Lyons with 17 and Smith with 15.
In Stacyville last Wednesday, the East Grand girls overtook Katahdin, 63-47.
Sarah Stoddard popped in a game-high 22 points, while Allie McEwen dropped in 16 and Chelsea Winiarski netted 14 more for the Lady Vikings.
For Katahdin, Landry tossed in 11 points and Kaycee Cintron added 10.
Last Saturday, the East Grand girls outlasted visiting Limestone/MSSM, 44-40.
The visiting Lady Eagles led 17-11 to start the game, but held only a 28-26 halftime advantage. After three, Limestone/MSSM kept a basket lead, 37-35. In the final eight minutes, the Lady Vikings were able to recover and take the lead and win.
Stoddard led the way with 13 points for East Grand, while Winiarksi added a dozen. Allie McEwen added 11 points for the Vikings.
For the Eagles, Kassee Albert scored 15 points.
