It’s been two years since the town of Smyrna has filled its seat on the RSU 50 school board.
“Since our representative moved, we have not been able to fill the position,” said Candy Nevers, Smyrna town manager.
Nevers is hoping that someone in the community will “step up” and become a voice for their community on the school board.
“I am really surprised no one wants to do it,” she said. “Our people are so involved with their kids’ activities. Anything the children do, it is well supported.”
But, right now, that position is still vacant.
“We took our voting list and looked through it and even called people to see if they would be interested,” Nevers explained. “But to date, we still have no candidate and this position is really important.”
Anyone wishing to take out their school board nomination papers should do so as soon as possible, as the deadline for filling the seat is Friday, Jan. 23, 2015.
