Bill to divide Aroostook? — A bill to divide Aroostook County is shortly to be presented to the legislature. Similar bills have made appearance in Augusta in past years but have always met with defeat. Caribou is the head and shoulders of the movement to carve Maine’s 17th county out of Aroostook with residents of that community entertaining an ambition to see it made the shire town and new county seat.
Cary Library news — The year 1914 has been A prosperous one for the library, 1142 volumes were added making a total of 10,132 at the end of the year. There were 1728 borrowers registered, 163 more than last year and these borrowed 27,000 books and magazines.

Local band honored — Ivan C. Sherman, director of the Houlton High School band, has received letters requesting the band arrange to play at the New York 1940 World’s Fair. The letters indicated the local musical organization had been recommended as an outstanding concert unit.
Pharmacy specials — The following sale prices were advertised by W. L. White Drug Co. this week: 100 aspirin tablets, 19 cents; castor oil, 8 oz. for 11 cents; 50 halibut liver oil capsules, 37 cents and Vick’s Vapo Rub, 59 cents.

Interstate bid is in — The low bid is in for work on Interstate 95 at Houlton, according to the State Highway Commission with a bid for $1,251,670 for 1.508 miles of grading, drainage, base and paving and four bridges. H. E. Sargent Inc. of Stillwater was the low bidder.
Brittons observe anniversary — Mr. and Mrs. George Britton recently observed their 50th wedding anniversary at their home in Monticello. They are the parents of three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Dorothy Hutchinson, Mrs. Erdene Hutchinson, Mrs. Harriet White, Norville of Old Orchard and Richard of Monticello.
For your sweetheart — French’s Drug Store is featuring 1 lb. boxes of Russell Stover Valentine chocolates for $2.10, and S.L. White Drug Co. offers Fanny Farmer 1 lb. packages for $1.19 — both in the traditional red foil heart-shaped boxes.

Playground logo contest — The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department and “Just for Kids” committee are in the process of raising money to renovate the playground at Community Park and are looking for youth to participate in a logo design contest for the new playground.

Recycling plastic bags — A program to recycle polyethylene grocery bags has begun in all Shop ‘n Save Supermarkets. The stores are believed to be the first in the country to offer customers plastic shopping bags made from up to 50% recycled polyethylene. Shoppers can participate by depositing clean, used plastic bags in collection bins.
