KENNEBUNKPORT – Guy “Joe” Crandall, 87, died Thursday, February 12, 2015, at home with his family in Kennebunkport. He was born October 25, 1927, in Houlton, the son of Guy and Elma Crandall.
Joe was a lifelong resident of Aroostook County. In his early years, he worked on the family farm in Oakfield. In 1944, when he was only a sophomore, Joe gave up his high school career to enlist in the U.S. Navy, where he attained the rank of Fireman First Class while serving on the USS Nassau, an escort aircraft carrier, until WW II ended. Joe worked for 32 years at the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad, primarily as a bus driver. During his time there he drove over one million accident free miles and served as a union leader for the Amalgamated Transit Workers. In the early 70s he went back to school, determined to get a diploma. In 1973, he graduated from Houlton High School, a feat he was extremely proud of. He was always a man of faith and a servant to his community. Joe served for three years as a trustee of the Dyer Brook Church Community and was proud of his 50-year membership to the Nollesmic Masonic Lodge in Millinocket.
He leaves his daughters, Cynthia Grey and her husband, Richard, Robin Veysey, Jody Webb and her husband, Bernard; son, David Crandall and his wife, Constance; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many close friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara.
