HOULTON – Ashman E. Hooper, 83, passed away Feb. 25, 2015 at a local healthcare facility. He was born Aug. 24, 1931, in Blue Hill, the son of Arthur and Julia Mae (Spear) Hooper.
Ashman grew up in Blue Hill and went to school in Brooklyn. He later proudly served ten years in the U.S. Air Force during the time of the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. Ashman earned the National Defense Medal. He worked 23 years as a foreman for Modern Produce Onion Packing House located in Goshen, NY, and in later years he worked at Andy’s IGA in Houlton. He loved playing card games such as cribbage, skipbo and yahtzee. Ashman attended the Houlton Wesleyan Church and was a past member of the American Legion. He will be remembered as an easygoing person with a gentle spirit and will be missed by all who knew him.
Ashman is survived by his stepson, Delmont Benjamin and wife, Susan, of Florida, NY; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Lois (Benjamin) Hooper; and a brother, Lewis Hooper.
