On Feb. 24, seven students in Grades 2-7 at East Grand School were the recipients of $100 scholarships from Maine College Circle and Machias Savings Bank.
The scholarships were awarded based on essays received in December from the students. The essay focused on what career the student was interested in, along with where they might want to go to college and how their career choice would help their hometown.
All essays from the school were read by Bob Stewart, Maine College Circle, and local community members. Winners were chosen based on quality of the essay, as well as the work ethic shown in completing the project. There were only seven awards given in grades 2-7.
The winning essays featured students wanting to become a dentist, a fashion designer, actor, computer programmer, police officer, video game designer, wrestler and studying science and computers.
