Alley Oops make their mark in women’s league

    Once reaching this point in the season, there are very few secrets between opponents and what the keys might be to success. The “Alley Oops” played determined and executed the game plan to almost perfection to be the only team to overtake previously undefeated “The Force” in the Houlton Women’s League last Sunday night, 40-37.

Alley Oops (4-2) were able to collect the win after strong performances by team leaders Desiree Dow and Audrey Violette. Violette was a force inside notching her first double-double of the revised season with 10 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, while Dow added 12 points and handed out a team-high four assists,
“The Force” held a one-point lead halfway through first half action, but were outscored 23-19 in the second half.
Olivia McNally led all scorers with 14 points, while grabbing six steals to go along with her six rebounds. Sarah Riopel equaled her scoring and rebounding with eight each. Jennie Schools also contributed eight points. Tanika Toby hauled down seven rebounds and had five assists. Emmaly Jurson scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds.
In the early game of the session, “Hoops, We Did it Again” was able to squeak by the pesky “Soup A Stars,” 31-26.
“Hoops, We Did It Again” were led by Katherine Currie with eight points and six rebounds, while Cindy Peterson netted seven points, five rebounds and two assists. Guard play of Martha McPartland and Lainey Herring were able to post six points apiece.
Whitney Souers led all scorers with 15 points and nine rebounds for “Soup A Stars” and Lacey Farrar scored seven points.
Riopel sets league record
It appeared more like a 3-point shootout during last Tuesday’s game as “The Force” remained undefeated with a 56-24 win over Soup A Stars.
“The Force” connected on seven, 3-point baskets setting a Women’s League record, including Sarah Riopel, who hit a game-high individual mark of four 3-pointers in a single game.
“The Force” offense was paced by Riopel with 24 points, McNally’s 12 points, five rebounds and four assists; Sam Keegan’s six points and four rebounds; Toby’s five points and six rebounds and Darby Toth added five points.
For the “Soup A Stars” Lacey McQuarrie tossed in 10 points, grabbed four rebounds, had two steals and handed out three assists. Farrar finished with eight points and seven rebounds, while Souers netted five points, six rebounds and two assists.
