The Houlton Basketball Association Women’s division started the postseason with an upset when the No. 3 seeded Hoops, We Did it Again defeating the No. 2 Alley Oops by a slim margin of 37-33.
Alley Oops used the inside game to their advantage reclaiming the lead and stretching the margin to as many as eight points in the first half, behind the efforts of Audrey Violette. Violette scored 10 of her game high 13 points during the first half, giving her squad the 18-12 halftime lead.
Hoops Again who was looking to advance and determined to reclaim the winning advantage, as both teams split on the regular season. Hoops, Again outscored their opponent 25-15 in the second half.
Martha McPartland of Hoops Again had a strong second half, finding the open lanes to the basket to score eight points in the second half.
Hoops Again will play the No. 1 seeded Force team on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. at the Houlton Recreation gymnasium.
Hoops Again heads to the semifinals with a 4-3 record. Katherine Currie finished with a solid seven points and five rebounds. Erica Tweedie and Kiley Henderson added six points apiece.
Alley Oops, who will have to fight their way back through the loser’s bracket, will also play on Sunday morning facing the Soup A Stars at 10 a.m. Alley Oops fell to 4-3 on the season.
Violette notched back-to-back double-doubles on the season to lead the Alley Oops with 13 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. Desiree Dow, who was held scoreless in the second half, managed to finish with six points.
In the late game, The Force (6-1) got an automatic win and advances to the next round due to the game forfeiture of the Soup A Stars (0-7) who were unable to field enough eligible players for the game.
