MOLUNKUS – Herbert “Herbie” E. Williams, 73, went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, March 27, at Katahdin Valley Nursing Home surrounded by his family and his loving wife of 52 years, Rose. He was born July 21, 1941 in Danforth.
Herbie was a hard worker dedicated to providing for his family and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the family camp on West Branch where he relished time with close friends and family. Herbie also enjoyed exercising his green thumb by tending to the garden each year and getting chewed by the infamous Molunkus black fly. He attended Zion Pentecostal Church in Mattawamkeag and retired from Great Northern Paper in Millinocket in 1998 after 33 years of service.
He is survived by his wife and their children, Crystal Simoneau and Jean of Saco, Kimberly and Steven Gray of Danforth, Michelle and Bob McDonald of Glenburn and Michael and Sherry Williams of Veazie; their children, Steven Gray II and his fiancée, Regina of Glenburn, Kristen and Paul Perrault of Biddeford, Justin Simoneau of San Diego, CA, Brandon Simoneau and Amanda of Saco, Jaron Gray of Winslow, Taylor and Nick Williams of Veazie and Kade and Rhett McDonald of Glenburn; three adorable great-granddaughters, Payton, Ashlyn and Sophia. He is also survived by his loving sister, Barbara and Roger Merritt of Hodgdon; and step-father Roy Lee of Danforth. Herbie was predeceased by his parents, Delbert Williams and Hilma (Gillis) Lee; an infant brother, Maurice and a grandson, Alex Quimby.
Friends called 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 29 at the Zion Pentecostal Church, Route 157, Mattawamkeag where funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 30 with Rev. Tyler Davis and Pastor Glen Gormel officiating. A reception immediately followed.
