It was a beautiful warm morning for the 13 TOPS and 1 KOPS meeting on Friday, May 1, at the Aldergate building of the Wesleyan Church on Kelleran Street.
May baskets were distributed in honor of the day and many stories were told of the “hanging” of May baskets many, many years ago and what fun it was.
After the weigh-in was completed the group then went to Houlton Regional Hospital for an informational meeting led by Julie Codrey, diabetes educator at the hospital.
A short business meeting was held, led by leader Betty Wyman. Loser of the week was Mildred Gagnon and runner-up was Denise Clark.
Julie then told of the risk of pre-diabetes and how to delay or prevent it. Some ways are more exercise, losing weight, changing one’s diet and eating fewer calories.
There is a support group at HRH. Those with questions may call the hospital and ask for the diabetes educator. It was a good meeting.
Next meeting will be at the usual meeting time and place.
