The annual East Grand Adventure Race will be held this Saturday in Danforth from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Dave Conley, organizer of the event, said it is not too late to sign up.
The Adventure Race features an all-new compass run and bike route. The compass run is 15 miles; mountain biking, 10 miles and paddling, eight miles.
“Extra challenges in the field include a mud crawl, two-person cross-cut saw competition, tomahawk throwing and log rolling,” Conley said.
There will be several divisions to compete in, including the high school boys and girls division where they compete in pairs; mixed; adult men and women mixed; and the mixed Junior/Senior category.
The open division can be solo, teams of any size, relay, kayak or canoe. In short, anything that doesn’t fit into the other divisions can compete in the open division. Entering a relay team is a great way to participate without having to complete the entire course.
Pre-registration is $20 per person by Friday and on race day, the fee is $30 per person. The entry fee covers trophies, T-shirts, lunch and more than $1,000 in prizes for youth divisions.
Proceeds benefit East Grand School’s Outdoor Education Program. The race is sponsored in part by SunEdison, Woodie Wheaton Land Trust, Machias Savings Bank and Ski Rack Sports.
