Fiddlers, Fiddlehead Fest coming to Patten May 16

The Katahdin Woods and Waters Recreation Area is moving its annual event — The  Fiddlers and Fiddlehead Fest — to the Patten Lumbermens’ Museum in Patten on May 16.

This year, join the group for an afternoon of music, food, crafts and activities. From Canada to the Midcoast, musicians and music lovers will gather to celebrate two signs of spring, the fiddlehead and some great outdoor fiddling.
Admission is by donation only. The event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. rain or shine, bring your own chair. On site contained camping may be available weather dependent. 61 Shin Pond Road in Patten.
With a new year and a new location, the Fiddlers and Fiddlehead Fest will also be making some additions. Donations will benefit the Museum’s Endowment Fund. Food venues will all be sponsored by local non-profits for their own individual fund raising. Local crafters will demonstrate and sell their crafts. The Maine Forest Services will join the group for some of their “Friends” and “Enemies” for the younger attendees along with one of their fire trucks.
Old time activities and games will also be available including the promise of a clogging lesson or two. Those who have a favorite fiddlehead recipe should bring it prepared, along with a written recipe to enter into the Cast Iron Chef Fiddlehead Cook Off. Two recipes and their chefs will be chosen by local judges to “Cook Off” for the title of Cast Iron Chef 2015. Cook Off is around 2 p.m.
The museum will be open throughout the afternoon for formal and informal tours. Anyone interested in getting involved as a local non-profit fundraiser, local crafter, or volunteer should contact lunksoos@gmail.com or rbrophy@fairpoint.net 852-1291 or 528-2650 prior to May 14.
