BANGOR, Maine — The Houlton High School track and field squad is making its mark in its first-ever season of team competition. Last Tuesday in Bangor, the girls’ team placed fourth out of eight teams, while the boys were led by the Browns, who are making strides in track events.

Austin Brown qualified provisionally for the 100 meters and for the Penobscot Valley Conference in the 200 meter, while brother, Isaiah, “lit up the track with his personal best time in the 1,600 meter of 5:01.29 for a provisional entry into the States,” said Houlton coach Chris Rines.
For the second straight competition, Natalie Hill has qualified provisionally for the 100 meter, while grabbing the program’s first automatic bid to the States in the 800 meter. Emily Mooers joins Hill in qualifying for the States, as well as PVC, in the 400 and 100 meters.
Rylee Warman posted a provisional qualifying time in the 800 meter and Emma Drew will be going to the PVC in the javelin, coming five-feet short of a State-qualifying throw.
The Houlton girls finished with 20 points for a fourth-place finish out of eight teams.
“Other than meet winner and powerhouse Orono, we were the next highest Class C team, beating out Greenville, Penquis, Foxcroft Academy and Sumner,” Rines said.

“The boys did really well to put up with some tough competition,” said Rines. “The southern part of the state is absolutely [full] with very talented sprinters and racing up against them gave us some valuable experience.”
Personal bests were had across the board in several events, most notably Glatter, who hit the century mark in the javelin, and hit his first finals appearance in discus. Reynolds has improved every meet so far and is really taking to shot put, Rines added.
