Alan Chamberlain has arrived from his home in West Point, Va., to spend several months at his cottage on lower Mattawamkeag Lake. He arrived alone, as his wife opted not to make the trip this year, but sons, Chris and Jeffrey, plan to arrive sometime during the summer.

Also arriving to spend the summer at their cottage at Pleasant Pond have been Mr. and Mrs. Martin Pankratz, who have been summer residents here for over 40 years and look forward each year to their return. While here they enjoy the golf and other activities in the area and meeting with old friends.
I have just recently discovered that I have a fat little groundhog staying nearby, because I happened to glance out my big window just recently and there he was, chewing on the grass growing a few feet away, every now and then standing on his hind feet to survey the area and make sure he was safe. Then he trotted up towards the house and, on looking further, I could see where he had been digging away like mad near my flower garden, to make himself a den to hide in. Hopefully, when my next door neighbor gets home from Florida, he will trap the little guy and transport him far, far away.
Early the other morning I had a glimpse of more wildlife on my back lawn when I was lucky enough to see a good-sized fox, with a lovely bushy tail, meandering around. He stayed there until he decided there was more to find in the woods, and away he went.
The weather has been quite chilly still, so am putting out the sunflower seeds to keep all the yellow and purple finch happy and hoping that the squirrels don’t get at the
feeders.
