HOULTON – Phyllis Marie McCurdy, 94, died peacefully and with her family by her side on March 27, 2015. She was born April 17, 1920, in Liberty, Maine, the daughter of Daniel True and Ella (Ryan) McCurdy.
Phyllis graduated from Walker High School, Liberty, Maine in 1938 and received her business degree from Ballard Business School, Rockland, Maine in 1941. She moved to Houlton and began her long and dedicated career at George S. Gentle Company until its sale to FA Peabody Company. She retired from Peabody’s in 1993.
Phyllis was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, Court Street, Houlton. She was devoted and loving aunt to five generations of nieces and nephews, following our successes and happy times and supporting us with her love. She was fondly called “Auntie P”, “G.G. Aunt P” and sometimes “4 G Aunt P”, referring to the many generations of nieces and nephews.
Phyllis is survived by a long list of these nieces, nephews and her Houlton family includes Marilyn Vose Grendall and her daughters, Ella Grendall Frawley and Anne Grendall Brennan; Connie Vose Pike, Eddie Vose, Susan Vose Riley, Dana Vose, Patty Vose Smith and Steven Vose. She was predeceased by her parents; her siblings, Lawrence, Annie McCurdy Vose and Esther McCurdy Amor; her nephew, Keith Vose; and great-nephew, Michael Vose.
Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 29 at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Ashley officiating.
