Hutchinson, Dorothy B., 95, May 20, 2015. Arrangements by Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton.
HOULTON – Dorothy B. Hutchinson passed away May 20, 2015, in the presence of her family and loving caregivers. She was born March 13, 1920, in Monticello, the daughter of George and Elzena (Delong) Britton.
Dorothy attended schools in Monticello and Houlton and in 1937 married John Hutchinson, embarking on a career as a farmer’s wife, which lasted until John’s death in 1993. Hospitality was Dorothy’s middle name. Any family, friends or strangers who happened at her door were treated to tea, cookies and donuts, not to mention the sumptuous meals. The only people not friends of Dot’s were those she hadn’t met. Following John’s death, she moved to Highland Court in Houlton where for 21 years she continued her hospitality and also enjoyed going out with the “girls.” Dot was a devoted Red Sox fan, never missed a televised game. One of her fondest memories was seeing the Sox play at Fenway on more than one occasion, when she went to the games with her daughter and son-in-law. When health issues became overwhelming in 2014, she moved to Madigan Estates, where she was always appreciative of the wonderful care she received.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Larry and Anne Hutchinson, Brenda and Bill Higgins, Kent and Tammy Hutchinson, all of Houlton; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Hutchinson) and Ryan Wilkins of Jay, Tom and Erica Hutchinson of Hampden, Christina (Higgins) and Curtis Johnson of Poland, Sean and Samantha Higgins of Topsham, Tara and Jessica Hutchinson of Houlton; nine great-grandchildren, T.J., Abigail, Parker, Laura, Owen, Natalie, Anna, Gracie and Marshall. Also surviving her are a sister, Harriet White of Mars Hill; a brother, Richard Britton and his wife, Mary, of Monticello; a sister-in-law, Vera Hutchinson of Monticello; along with cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. Besides her husband and parents, Dorothy was predeceased by a sister, Erdean and two brothers, Norval and Warren. The family extends grateful thanks to Dr. Abouleish and the competent and loving staff at Madigan Estates.
Friends called at the Dunn Funeral Home Saturday, May 23, from 12 noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dennis Ashley officiating. Interment was private. Gifts may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the Cary Library, Madigan Estates Activity Fund or charity of one’s choice, c/o Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park Street, Houlton, ME 04730.
