HOULTON, Maine — John Bishop, head of school for Greater Houlton Christian Academy, has announced the honor parts for the graduating class of 2015. Allana L. Walker has been chosen as valedictorian, with Zachary P. Ebner named salutatorian and Rachel E. Potter is First Honor Essayist.
Allana Walker
Valedictorian
Allana L. Walker, valedictorian, is the daughter of Allan Walker of Hartland, New Brunswick and Angela Shea of Somerville, N.B. A member of the National Honor Society, she has earned many academic awards including highest honors all four years as well as gold and silver Presidential Education Awards in multiple subjects and the Christian Character and Christian Service awards. She has received recognition by the Houlton Rotary Club and merited ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Student in academics for two years.
Walker is the recipient of the Maine Principal’s Association Principal’s Award for 2015.
Walker attends the Centreville Baptist Church where she serves as Junior Church Worship Leader. With a passion for music, she also takes private singing lessons and is a member of the high school worship team.
Walker has been accepted into the Honors Program at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. where she will pursue a degree in theater performance.
Zachary Ebner
Salutatorian
Zachary P. Ebner, son of Kelley Fitzpatrick of Houlton, has been named the salutatorian of the class of 2015. Ebner has received several academic and character awards including the Christian service award. For his consistent hard work he has been recognized by the Houlton Rotary Club, received awards in multiple subjects from the President’s Education Program, and was chosen for the ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Student award for two years. He participated in varsity baseball for two years.
Ebner attends St. Mary’s of the Visitation Church where he is actively involved in helping with the Food Pantry. He has also been a great asset to the GHCA Food Booth, where he has volunteered at many community events. Ebner is currently employed at Andy’s IGA. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, hiking and whitewater rafting.
Ebner will be pursuing a degree in computer science through Thomas College in Waterville.
Rachel Potter
First Honor Essayist
Rachel E. Potter is the First Honor Essayist of Greater Houlton Christian Academy for 2015. She is the daughter of Barrett and Mary Potter of Houlton. Potter has been awarded both gold and silver Presidential Education Awards in multiple subjects all four years, the Christian Service Award, ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Student and Houlton Rotary Club recognition. She has been a member of Student Council, serving as class president. Athletically, Potter has been a member of the cross country team for three years and was named an Aroostook League School Athlete for 2015.
Potter is a member of the Military Street Baptist Church where she is actively involved in a variety of ministries including youth ministry and assisting in Junior Church. She has also volunteered her time to benefit others through Adopt-a-Block of Aroostook and the Just 4 Boys Camp.
Potter is a well-rounded individual, she excels not only at academics, but also in the fine arts. She has been a member of Houlton School of Dance for 14 years and more recently, Studio One Dance. She will attend Lancaster Bible College in Pennsylvania, pursuing a degree in musical theatre.
